Definition:

The MA Techniques and Methods of Reading (Qerā’āt) program is a specialized course through which the students are deeply familiarized with the modules. Students receive MA over successful completion of the program.

Program’s General Objectives:

• Training lecturers for BA programs in international seminary schools and universities for teaching relevant courses;

• Training researchers in related programs;

• Training skilled students in reading techniques and methods

• Training talented students for continuing their education in doctoral level

Educational Goals and Policies:

• Encouraging students for research through allocating 30% of the learning to research

• Avoiding over-readings in classes

• Developing related skills such as authoring, teaching and translating relevant texts

• Developing the skills of using technical Arabic and English texts in the MA Techniques and Methods of Reading (Qerā’āt) program

• Internalizing ethics and spiritual traits in students

• Developing deep understanding and critical and comparative views in students

• Providing a logical understanding in Techniques and Methods of Reading (Qerā’āt)

• Developing the skills of disseminating the Quran and tradition teachings using relevant academic sources

• Encouraging students to continue their education in doctoral level

• Presenting a reasoning jurisprudence and principles of Islamic law proportionate to the MA level

• Giving familiarity with the orientalists’ viewpoints regarding Techniques and Methods of Reading and analyzing them

• Expanding the ability of using the interpretation of the Quran (intermediary level) based on the relevant principles and basics

• Acquiring a general understanding about the Quranic teachings and Ahl-e Bayt (a.s) and the skills for researching relevant topics

• Creating a student-oriented syllabus

           Program Structure:

• There are a total of 32 credit units including dissertation plus a 32 prerequisite credits (seminary courses and special requirements) studied over 5 semesters. (Maximum credits presented per semesters are 14)

• Theoretical credits are16 hours studied over 16-week semesters

Importance and Necessity:

Since the Holy Quran is the major source in the religion of Islam and as it provides the religious needs of Muslims and because having this knowledge is necessary for researching and teaching Islamic subjects, it is a must to have Techniques and Methods of Reading (Qerā’āt) program as an independent program so that the need of Islamic world for the lecturer and researcher is fulfilled.

Role and Effectiveness:

The graduates of this program, with the knowledge and learning acquired, can become researchers and lecturers in relevant courses and play an effective role in elevation and expansion of Islamic culture present their knowledge to other individuals. They can also acquire the knowledge needed in doctoral level and advance to doctoral level and be more efficient for the aforesaid plans.
