Definition: PhD History of Islamic Civilization is the highest level in the field of history of Islam during which students pass research-based and taught courses and after successful completion of the programme they achieve doctoral degree. Programme’s aims: Instructing researchers and specialists in the field of Islamic civilization Instructing lecturers for the highest academic levels Expanding the knowledge in the filed of History of Islamic civilization Methodical and academic analysis of History of Islamic civilization Analyzing and studying intellectual and cultural changes and the factors impacting the development and fall of Islamic civilization- Studying the strategies for reviving Islamic civilization Academic policies: Attention to ethical and spiritual aspects of students Encouraging students toward research-based studies through allocating a minimum of 30 per cent of credit hours (apart from thesis) to research work Attempting to instruct skillful researchers who are informed of latest academic developments Laying the grounds for students to get to know the latest principles, methods and tools of research Attention to students’ skills in teaching, dissemination, translation and authorship Developing students’ analytical skills, ability to argue and assessing and answering new religious questions regarding the history of Islamic civilization Attention to innovation and development of new theories and viewpoints Admission: MA History students can apply for the programme. Students are admitted in accordance with general and specific rules of admission. Note: students with other academic background can apply for the programme; however, they are required to pass some pre-requisite course units if admitted. Programme’s structure: Total course units are 58 Students cover course units including thesis in 5 years. Each theoretical course unit is 16 hours and practical ones are 32 hours; there is a research approach in the entire courses Students are required to pass a thesis which is worth 18 credits Course units (except thesis) are presented in each semesters are 6-10 credit Course Unit structure:
Importance and necessity: Muslims were highly developed in terms of science and civilization in some eras known as ‘’golden age of civilization’’. Their development was gradually deteriorated for some reasons; therefore, understanding Islamic civilization and assessing it can help develop un in careful planning for reviving Islamic civilization. Moreover, understanding such subjects is crucial for seminary students and scholars so that they can become more effective and capable in academic settings. Role and Skills: With acquired historical knowledge, the graduates are capable of conducting academic activities and work effectively in academic institutes; they can also continue their research studies and by doing so play an effective role in expansion and elevation of Shiite culture and civilization and disseminating it to different societies and be useful in fulfilling the mentioned objectives.
